Summary

We start our new season of The Simple Show in the next episode, and it's gonna be fantastic. But today I've got a conversation I don't want you to miss. My friend (and AoS writer) Brooke McAlary recently announced she's quitting Jackrabbit, the podcast network she helped found—and when she did, I thought, Hmm.... I could use a good chat with her. So, we poured ourselves some coffee and hit record. We're 8,400 miles away—she's in Sydney, and I'm here in Central Texas. (If you read At Home, it's her house we stayed in for our Christmas down under.) My own work shift was on my mind, so together, we talk about what it looks like to quit something good in favor of something better. We talk about why we need to know our why, and why we need regular reminders of it.   For links to this episode, head to thesimpleshow.com and look for episode 87, or check the list below. 0:30.7

She's quit something good in exchange for more autonomy so she and her family can travel and so she can concentrate more on work that better taps into her wheelhouse.

0:35.7

I ask her how she knew it was time to quit this good work in her

0:38.7

life, what her fears were about making this change, and what she's hoping it'll give her and her

0:44.1

family. You may not do her type of work, but we all know what it's like to have to quit something.

0:49.9

That's what this conversation is all about, exchanging something good for something even better,

0:55.0

even when there's loss. I knew I wanted to talk to Brooke about this because this exact thing

0:59.9

is what's been on my mind lately in my own life and work, and it directly affects this podcast.

1:05.1

I'll tell you more about this in the following episodes to be looking for that, but I can't

1:09.3

think of a better conversation to start the

1:11.3

shift than this one with my friend Brooke. So enjoy. Okay, well, Brooke, you know, it hasn't been

1:20.8

too long since we talked, but a lot has happened on your end of things. And I'm so excited to

1:25.7

talk to you about this because this is exactly

1:28.0

the kind of thing I've been thinking about in my own life. So this idea of quitting good things

1:33.0

to move on to better things. That's like exactly what you're dealing with right now. So tell us a

1:37.4

little bit about why you recently decided to quit this thing you built and loved and nurtured

1:42.6

to move on to something else.

1:46.6

Yeah, this is really the heart of it, isn't it?
