Huey Lewis lead vocalist for Bay Area California rock and rollers

Huey Lewis in the news. We're gonna take you back in time to break down the writing, recording,

and release of the band's first number one hit, The Power of Love, taken from the 1985

soundtrack for the movie Back to the Future. Some of the greatest songs are written super quickly,

and this one is no exception.

The music was presented to Huey by guitarist Chris Hayes,

and Huey fills us in how he wrote the lyrics and melody

in one fell swoop, listening on headphones to an instrumental version of the song

through a Walkman cassette player while he was jogging.

Submitting a song for a movie was uncharted territory for the band and they were unsure at first if the power of love

would even work for the film. Well let's just say it works so well and

climbed up the top 40 radio charts so quickly that production of the movie was

rushed to release the film sooner than

planned. That is something I can't recall ever happening with another movie.

This song was massive and opened up an already huge band to an even bigger

audience and he made his acting up an already huge band to an even bigger audience.

And he made his acting debut in the film,

something he thought he'd never have the opportunity to do.
