Our guest today is Wilderness Canoeing Enthusiast Steve Paragas.

Steve and his wife Nancy took a trip to Ellie, Minnesota, way back in 1975.

They visited the boundary waters and just fell in love with the place, so they made it their home.

Since 1979, Steve has been running Paragas Northwood's company, which is an outfitter in Ellie.

He's passionate about canoeing, limnology, and ornithology, and he's active in a campaign to help save the Boundary Waters Wilderness.

Great to be here. So, Steve, I gave a brief sketch of who you are,

but take a minute to tell our guests about yourself and your connection to canoeing and your

connection to this campaign to save the Boundary Waters. Absolutely, yeah. Nancy and I, as you said,

we're limnologists. We came here from the University of New Hampshire in 1975 for the summer. We just fell in

love with Ely at the edge of the Boundary Waters Wilderness. I grew up around boats and canoes, so

it was a natural for me to bring a canoe here when we came in 1975. And we took our first canoe trip,

I think, the second week we were in Ely, and immediately fell in love

with this wilderness, this is just so amazing. It's a million acres of lakes and portages and waterways.
