As some of you might know, once upon a time, a million years ago, I was a high school debater

for a nationally ranked school. We were pretty good.

Two of our teams over the course of two years went to the nationals. They did not win, but they

came very close. So that was the legacy. We had very small school debate team. The principal loved

football, didn't give a shit about us. So that's the fate of a high school debater.

But we were juniors at the time I recall junior, junior varsity, and we were pretty good.

My teammate and I were pretty good.

We had a pretty good winning record.

And one Saturday morning, as you former high school debaters know, at a cold school

somewhere in the suburbs, we were paired up with two young men who were absolutely unprepared for anything.
