Turns out, he got a diagnosis of macular degeneration, and he decided he was going to walk home and see America before he went blind.

I mean, I thought I was, you know, doing something.

Here's a guy who's walking.

And mind you, he's gone from Seattle to Kansas on foot.

And so I was just asking him about, like, how he was doing it and what kind of gear he had.

He said, gear.

I said, yeah, like, what kind of shoes you've been wearing?

He said, oh, he just pointed down to the ground.

He said, I just, I picked these up for $15 at the, at the Walmart.

They're working just fine for me.

This is Tamila Rich talking about road tripping across the U.S., finding it a little

later in life, actually, through motorcycles.

You know, if y'all have listened to this show for a while, you know that I love bike touring and bikepacking. And if there's ever a day that I'm like, you know, I just don't feel like pedaling as much on this trip. I would definitely be open to a motorcycle. I've been thinking about it for years, just haven't, haven't gotten one yet,

just, you know, didn't want to spend the money, but maybe in time, I'll get a bike, and then you can just go a lot farther and access a few different places that you can't necessarily

on bike quite as easily. So even if you're not interested in motorcycle touring or road tripping in that
