at day early, because we reminded ourselves that once upon a time we had sworn off doing reviews of the Sunday shows because they're always awful.

But...

Just what I thought I was out.

They pull me back in.

As most of you know, for the better part of two decades, I, your gracious co-host, ran a feature on

my blog called Sunday Morning Coming Down, which was a regular weekly rundown of how America's

most prestigious political talk shows were failing us.

And over time, I gradually tapered off because, let's face it, after a while,

it was just poking a dead possum with a stick. It's not playing. It's really dead. You're starting

to smell. So why bother? But every now and then something weird happens, something which to the

uninitiated can appear as though the Beltway media had learned a lesson of some kind,

that the now long-dead possum is somehow some way staggering back to its feet.

I can assure you this is never the case.

Instead, what you're seeing when this happens is a kind of media post-mortem flatulence,

the decomposing husk of the media twitching and farting as if there were something

journalistic-y still going on inside there.

And that's what happened this week on Meet the Press.
