Summary

Pope Francis is attempting to overturn 2,000 years of Church teaching on the death penalty. Christianity has always taught, and Scripture says, and men like Aquinas and Augustine have affirmed, that the death penalty is morally permissible. The Pope disagrees. Is he wrong? We'll talk about that on the show today. (But yes, he's wrong). Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. 1:43.3

like Aquinas and Augustine have affirmed this. It's always been taught that the death penalty

1:48.8

is in principle permissible, in principle, the state has the authority from God to put criminals

to death. That is what has always been taught. Even in modern times when when, uh,

2:01.6

folks like Pope John Paul II have had personal objections to the death penalty, still this
