Stephen Herrigan was born in Oklahoma City but got to Texas as soon as he could

which was when he was five years old. He grew up in Abilene and Corpus Christi.

He's a long time writer-at-large for Texas Monthly and his articles and essays have appeared

in a wide range of other publications including the Atlantic, the Wall Street Journal,

and National Geographic among many others.

He's written 11 books of both fiction and non-fiction, including the Gates of the Alamo,

a well-known Texas work of Texas historical fiction. It was a New York Times bestseller. It received a number of awards including the Spur Award for Best Novel of the West.

Another novel of his, Remembering Ben Clayton, also won the Spur Award.

Herrigan writes for television and screenplays for the movies.

His award-winning screenplays have been produced on such outlets as HBO, T and T, the Hallmark Channel.
