But before we do, I want to define our terms.

What is the American deep state?

So when I use the phrase, I'm referring to a national security bureaucracy that between 1941 and 1975

operated in near total secrecy with no real oversight or accountability from our

elected government. This show endeavors to explain how and why that changed in the year after

President Nixon resigned from office in disgrace. Now, I realize this concept, a deep state,

is often linked to unprovable conspiracy theories.

It is an amorphous hive mind that acts in lockstep.
