Last week, our story began. There was a late-night struggle in the mansion of Monsieur de Gèvre and his secretary, Monsieur de Val, was found dead.

Monsieur de Gèvre was unharmed, but a man was seen on the ground carrying something.

Before he got too far, he was shot by a witness from the house. He apparently remained trapped in the grounds, but was never discovered.

Young Isador Botrallé, a local student, posed as a journalist and seemed to have a peculiarly intimate knowledge of the case.
