After years of dissociation from my body

and keeping myself separate from the world,

I picked up a camera.

It made me slow down and start seeing the beauty and ugliness,

just words but ones I had used on myself.

I kept at a distance as it had proven too dangerous a place.

The macro of the camera brought things close, let the images slide past my barriers and flow into my heart

to kindle what I had forgotten, wonder, and joy.
