Summary

Christine’s love for backpacking started the same way many of the adventures on this podcast start, with a Google search. Her quest that day? To find out what this backpacking thing was all about.

After only a few articles into her search, Christine decided to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. It was a huge leap of faith but she immediately got to work to make that dream come true.

The funny thing about making a dream a reality is that it’s not what we typically imagine. The realness of life usually gets in the way and what actually happens before, during, and after an adventure is anything but what we plan for.

Today we’re going to hear Christine’s story of how her experience hiking the AT changed her and all the adventures that have come before and after it.

She has written her experiences in a new book after a life-altering trip on the Wonderland trail called Alone in Wonderland, which can be found at her website, aloneinwonderland.com

I think that the main thing that was different on the Wonderland Trail for me personally was that when I talked to other people on the trail, I really felt like a lot of people were in the same place and experiencing some of the same things that I was.

Yeah. things that I was. Hey folks, welcome to the Adventure Sports podcast.

I'm your host, Mason. It might sound a little bit different today. I'm actually recording remotely. Hopefully this is more of a common thing that we'll be recorded remotely because we're actually doing adventures. You know, the show's called Adventure Sports Podcast, but really anyone that listens to the show knows that it's more about adventure stories.

0:59.0

It's about the stories that we can tell through doing adventure sports.

A great example is two weekends ago I went on a bike race, or we went to a bike race, me and some friends.

1:10.7

And we took along a friend

1:11.8

that had never done anything like this, kind of talked him into it, and we went camping

1:16.1

the night before, and it was just an awesome time, but there were different options to the race.

1:21.5

So you could, like, cut off some time, some mileage, you could cut off some difficulty of

1:26.8

the terrain if you wanted to but Jordan

1:29.7

being who he has decided to go for the absolute longest route possible and the most

1:34.4

difficult route possible where there was like one tenth of all the people at the race

1:38.7

were actually signed up for that part and so we knew that we were in for it when

1:43.0

there were only a handful of us at the start

1:45.5

line. And when we finished that race, we were the dead last people to finish in the entire event.

1:54.6

The event had already packed up three people waiting on us just like as the last people to

1:59.5

make sure we weren't dead or they

2:01.7

wouldn't have to call the cops or something to find us and they they told us hey we were worried about

2:05.5

y'all but i say all this to say we had such a good time it was so much fun we stopped we

2:13.3

we just played around um we were just out in the woods having a great time, took a bunch of wrong turns, so much

2:21.0

mishap, so much misadventure, honestly, totally underprepared in so many ways.

2:26.7

But in a lot of ways, that's exactly what we went out there for.
