It's not often that we get the go-ahead from all US federal and state officials.

One unified message, it's not often, but we have it here.

There is a new invasive species bug called the lantern fly, and it's a beautiful spectacle

with spotted bright red wings, and a little bumble bee-esque body, and it's just trekking

across the US.

It was first detected in the US in Pennsylvania back in 2014, and it's now spread to at

least nine states, primarily in the Northeast.

Growing numbers have been spotted in New York City alone this year, and they like oak

and walnut and poplar trees, grapes, almonds, fruit orchards, and they are very harmful

to these.

And all of these US and federal state officials have said, kill them.

So if you see a lantern fly, kill it.
