and activity sheets while you're there. Today we'll be telling the story of St. Pascal Baylon,

whose feast is celebrated on May 17th. Pascal was born on May 16th, 1540 in Spain.

He was born on the Feast of Pentecost, and since Pentecost is the last day of the

Easter season, his parents Martin and Elizabeth named him Pasquale, which means relating to Easter.

Pasquille's family was poor but faithful, and he grew up tending flocks of sheep with no formal

education.

He taught himself to read while watching the sheep, and his reputation for holiness started from a young age.

When Pascal grew up, he discerned a call to religious life and joined the Reform Franciscans.

As a friar, he worked as a porter, cook, gardener, and

official beggar, the person in the monastery that went around town asking for charity.

Pascal had a reputation for being cheerful, kind, and respectful of all people, rich or poor.

St. Pascal is the patron saint of Eucharistic Congresses, because whenever he traveled, he made sure

to make time to visit as many churches as he could

to spend time with the Blessed sacrament and could kneel in the same position for five hours.

He is also the patron saint of cooks, shepherds, and boys.
