So we've talked about how the meat prices are going through the roof at our grocery stores,

and that means what?

Well, that means people are going to be trying to sneak meat across the Texas, Mexico border.

Agents discovered approximately 320 pounds of pork baloney, 30 pounds of turkey ham,

hidden in a man's vehicle.

The man, a 20-year-old El Paso resident, presented himself for inspection at the border and

the agriculture specialist discovered 31 rolls of baloney and two rolls of turkey ham

concealed under blankets, under seats, and in the car's center console, and inside

a duffel bag, 320 pounds.

The man told border officials, yeah, you know, I just planned to resell it.

Oh, okay.

So they gave him a thousand dollar fine seized and destroyed the meat.

And why did they destroy the meat?

Well, due to a recent detection of the African swine fever in the Dominican Republic, it's

important that no pork products are brought into the U.S.

Oh, okay.

That's great.

We're glad to know that that African swine fever is in the Dominican Republic, and, you

know, gee, pork products have the potential to introduce foreign animal diseases that

can be detrimental to our agricultural industry, you think?

So there you have it.

We have to be on the lookout for more and more people trying to sneak meat into the country
