Today we'll be telling the story of St. Bernadette Subaru,

whose feast is celebrated on April 16th, but also on February 18th in France.

The story of St Bernadette is also the story of Our Lady of Lords, whose feast is celebrated

in February as well on the 11th.

St. Bernadette Subaru was born in France on January 7th, 1844.

Bernadette was the oldest of nine children.

Her father was a Miller and her mother was a

laundress. St. Bernadette and her family were extremely poor and she suffered

from bad health her whole life. When St. Bernadette was 14 years old, she was visited on many occasions

by the Virgin Mary, and these visions changed her life forever. St. Bernadette joined the

Sisters of Charity at their mother house in Navarre, where she lived for the rest of her life.

St. Bernadette worked in the infirmary, caring for the sick, and then as a sacriston,

creating beautiful embroidered altar claws and vestments.
