Summary

Welcome to a special New Years episode of Monocycle. This week, Leandra thinks about New Year's Eve as an institution and what one should wear to commemorate the occasion. At one point, you may wonder: is this a new-age soapbox to volley for or against the moot concept of resolutions? As we usher in 2016, think of this edition as a sort of test. What do you want to keep seeing from this podcast? Would you prefer more elaborate story telling? As we usher in a new year neither putting too much pressure on it nor taking it so lightly, when better to start thinking actionably about improvement? Happy New Year, Happy New Year, Happy New Year to you.

Ooh!

0:09.0

Something you might not know about me is that my resolution for 2016 is

0:18.0

Abandon my life as a writing person

0:22.6

and instead sing songs.

0:27.0

I'm also testing on multiple different accents for size

0:30.2

so I don't know if you knew which ones I had on just there

0:33.3

but I'm not going to tell you because this is a guessing game

0:35.9

and so it's up to you to guess and me to fess up when you guess right.

0:47.4

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry I just put you through that.

0:51.5

Anyway, really, happy new year.

0:53.8

This is it, right? 2016 is coming. 2015 has gone.

The notion of time consistently confounds me. I thought a little bit about what I wanted to discuss in this episode, and initially I was going with resolutions, but I realized that resolutions

1:11.3

are such a moot point. You know, some people like to keep them. Some people don't. Every

1:15.8

form of media has an opinion on whether or not you should make resolutions and how to keep

1:20.4

them. But I think that as I addressed in the first episode when we talked about burnout, a resolution

1:26.0

boils down to a goal and whether or not you

1:28.1

want to make it is at your discretion and whether or not you want to keep it is at your

1:31.5

discretion. I can advise that you make them and that you make them achievable so that you feel

1:36.7

like you're winning because you deserve to feel like you're winning all the time. But I can't

1:42.8

sit here and tell you what to do and how to do it because that's

1:46.8

just unreasonable. So instead, why don't we talk about New Year's Eve, right? I feel like there's a lot
