0:00.0 | Hey guys. Welcome to Not Another Anxiety Show. I'm your host, Kelly Walker, and today |
0:17.6 | it'll be just me answering a question from one of our lovely listeners. |
0:22.2 | So one listener writes in, have you heard about a technique called tapping to alleviate anxiety? |
0:29.4 | Does it work? And if so, where can we get information? |
0:34.4 | Now, I realize there may be quite a few people out there that have never heard of this quote-unquote tapping technique. |
0:41.3 | And funny enough, I mentioned it to Erica the other day, and her response was, what's tapping? |
0:47.6 | Is that some sort of sexual act? |
0:49.9 | Hence the reason it's just me here today. |
0:53.1 | So this idea of tapping comes from something called the emotional freedom technique. |
0:58.0 | The emotional freedom technique, otherwise known as EFT, is a technique that combines acupuncture and self-hypnosis. |
1:06.1 | It involves tapping on acupuncture points while repeating to yourself a phrase about what blockage you want |
1:12.1 | to clear. In this case, anxiety. And if you want a demonstration of how to use this technique, |
1:18.3 | then visit www.EFTuniverse.com, because it would be really hard to guide you through this technique |
1:25.9 | without a visual aid. |
1:31.4 | Plus, it's not a technique I'm particularly familiar with, |
1:36.0 | so the people from that site would be better able to lead you through it. |
1:41.5 | Now, their website shares some small peer-reviewed studies that have been published in scientific journals supporting the claim that EFT does in fact decrease anxiety. |
1:48.6 | On the other hand, there are just as many peer-reviewed scientific studies that deem this technique and other energy healing techniques, a pseudoscience, meaning the claims are particularly big, but the scientific evidence is |
2:06.0 | lacking, the substantial scientific evidence is lacking. So clearly the research is mixed. |
2:13.0 | Whether tapping works because it's simply a distraction or a placebo effect is unknown at this time. |
2:20.2 | Or maybe tapping really does unblock clogged meridians. |
2:25.1 | I'm not sure, and neither is the research at this point. |
