We're welcoming back Jonathan Haidt to the show.

We talked to John Height some time ago about his book,

The Righteous Mind, subtitle, Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion. And that book

will no doubt, at least in part, inform this conversation. But the reason I'm having him back is that I think of

John Height as somebody who

has his views like anybody else, but is, I don't want to say non-ideological, but he's somebody who

is an old-fashioned academic in the sense that even though he may not be fully in our camp,

so to speak, he's somebody who believes in fair play.

He's somebody who believes in the open discussion of ideas. And he is somebody who is

absolutely appalled at the violent suppression of dissident ideas, which is what we in fact

are obviously seeing on university campuses. So I think he's an interesting person to talk to because he's not one of the firebrands whose talks are being shouted down, but he's a horrified observer who doesn't necessarily agree with the speakers themselves, but who thinks that it's totally unacceptable to act the way certain people, let's say, on campuses are acting.

So I thought this would be a helpful conversation.
