What's up everybody welcome back to Cooper's stuff. Thanks for joining us. All right today we're going to be talking about another sad heart breaking the construction story. That of course is Kevin Max from the iconic Christian band D.C. Tom.

A lot of people have been wanting to know John you're going to speak about this. I don't I don't feel that I need to share every deconstruction story. In fact I don't think I've really shared any stories on Cooper's stuff I have to have on other interviews.

This one's different because it's from my peer group. You right it's from my world my peer group people want to know how could this happen. We'll talk about you know the D.C. talk angle a little while. One of the most iconic Christian bands of all time. All right. How can this happen.

I don't know. But I will share some some thoughts is sad it's heartbreaking but we need to be fortified we need to understand what is happening.

Yes from a theological perspective of course but we need to be on guard for things because people are asking themselves how can we stop this from happening in the future and people are rightly asking I would say.

I would say. Predently asking hey how do I know this isn't going to happen to me I mean I think that's a pretty question. We all like to think it won't but you get it starts to kind of like it you at home when people that you have looked up to seem to have gone so far over.

People want to know I'm going to share some practical things hope it fortifies your faith hope it encourages you I hope it's gracious as well as we pray for people who are deconstructing we pray that God brings them back into the faith right that he brings them back into repentance that should be our heart that's certainly my heart for people who go through these things we're going to talk about it I hope in love and grace but we're going to get real we're going to have to get real that's what we do on Cooper stuff.

people in their faith especially young people that don't quite know theology maybe they don't understand everything about the God that they do believe in but they don't understand a lot of the foundations of the faith original sin why we need to be forgiven we're going to talk about some of those things today because one of the things that I believe in this

deconstruction happening is that I think a lot of people deconstructing never quite understood the faith they claim to belong to not a judgmental thing just what I think we're talking about today so check out the book if you have

it if you get kids whatever we're going to read from it later on okay so here we go a couple things from the get all right that means from the top all right I need to say this so I don't know Kevin Max

I have met him we probably had five or six conversations that lasted two or three minutes over a 25 year period all right so it's not like we're buddies we're not buddies I like him he likes me I think we've always gotten along but like I say I've only met him four or five times so he's the he's the member of DC talk that I know the least because I've toured with the others

so this is not like a personal friend of mine it's not somebody that I know very well and I certainly don't want to be here slandering him and kicking him down I just pray that he comes into repentance to the Lord Jesus Christ right I've got no ill will towards him we've always had a good relationship so I shouldn't even say relationship but we've always been we've always had friendly acquaintance conversations how does that sound all right I also need to say this

that I view Jesus freak the album Jesus freak I think is one of the most iconic Christian albums of all time I actually think personally it probably is the most iconic Christian album of all time I don't mean this disparagingly obviously that's a huge compliment I just gave I that's not my favorite Christian record of all time I was more into metal you know I think to help the devil it probably be a little closer on my list but I think I'm not going to be a little closer on my list

I think that DC talk is extremely talented make great music great songs and really became it's almost like the Beatles right you're never going to have another Beatles even if somebody later on makes an album that you like more than the Beatles there's never going to be another one I think DC talk changed the game for Christian music I really do and I think the songs are great and it became an anthem for you I think it's not like the Beatles

I think the songs are great and it became an anthem especially in the 90s you know 90 91 92 and then you know Jesus freak comes out and the world the Christian music world just explodes so I think that that is also playing into some of this because not only is it the most iconic Christian

music world in my opinion that's debatable obviously but not only is it that that level of influence the albums called Jesus freak and so there's this kind of like wow I mean if somebody that was a Jesus

freak can get to this point what what does that mean and so I think we need to look at that first and here's here's the thing I'll say this some people

watching might even be like I don't even know who Kevin Max is I don't even know about the story there's two reasons I think that you if you don't know what's happening because this isn't getting near the heat as as like Joshua Harris or something like that there's two reasons
