Today we'll be telling the story of St Mary Magdalen,

whose feast is celebrated on July 22nd.

Not much is known about Mary's early life, but many scholars believe she may have come from

the fishing town of Magdala on the western shore of the sea of Galilee.

According to the four Gospels, Mary Magdalen was a devout Jewish woman who traveled with Jesus

and his disciples as one of his followers.

She helped us support his ministry financially as well.

She was a witness to his crucifixion, burial, and resurrection.

All four Gospels identify her, either alone or with other women, as the first person to witness

the empty tomb on Easter morning, and the first person to testify to Jesus's resurrection. St Mary Magdalene is the patron saint of converts, hairdressers, the contemplative life,

apothecaries, and women.
