Today we'll be telling the story of St. Vincent Ferrer

whose feast is celebrated on April 5th.

Vincent was born on January 23rd, 1350 in Valencia, Spain.

His father, William Ferrer, was a nobleman, and his mother, Constance, was a native of Valencia.

They had four children, and Vincent was the last.

He was named after the patron saint of Valencia, Saint Vincent Martyr.

From childhood, Vincent showed a love of the faith and great compassion for others.

At age 18, he entered the Dominican Order. It wasn't easy at first and he considered leaving,

but instead persevered and in 1379 was ordained a priest. The Dominicans are also known as the Order of Preachers and that's just what St. Vincent did.

For 21 years he traveled all around Europe preaching the gospel and converting many many people.

It was said that he had the gift of tongues, or the ability to speak in his own language and be understood by everyone listening as if he were speaking
