I think it's fair to say that few people in American life have had as broad an array

of experiences and public affairs and politics as Newton Minow, the former chairman of the

Federal Communications Commission under President Kennedy, but it is advisers to presidents,

governors, mayors dating back to the 1940s and one of the great storytellers in American

politics.

But you can hear that for yourself.

New Minow, we both lost a good friend this weekend, you, a lifelong friend, Abner McFa,

you guys grew up together in Milwaukee.

We were born four days apart in the same Milwaukee hospital.

We were in a high school together.

Abner defeated me in a competition to become editor-in-chief of the high school newspaper.

And you forgave him, huh?

He made me sports editor, he later told me that was a better job.

We competed against each other to become a law clerk for Justice Mitten at the U.S. Supreme

Court.

He had been recommended by the University of Chicago Law School, I've been recommended

by Northwestern.

I went for my interview and Justice Mitten says, you know, he said, I'd like to hire kids

from the Midwest.

I would love to hire you, but I just, yesterday, decided on a guy, his name was Miska,
