There's no question that our planet has life. But is our planet itself alive? This is a question posed back in the 1970s as the Gaia hypothesis, and it got its share of criticism. Some new ideas have been proposed to bring this hypothesis to the modern era as we search for exoplanets.

1:47.6	like oh Fraser I've been a big fan of your work for for 10 years I'm like
1:51.3	wait what? Yeah you work with this really cool spacecraft you know who I am
1:55.9	and they're like yeah be glad you do an interview or someone will reach out with
1:59.8	a piece of news of a source and again it's just like out of the blue and you're
2:03.4	like wait a minute what so so be doing the same job showing up day after day for
2:08.2	23 years does have its advantages I highly encourage
2:14.3	people to stick with something for a while if it's working for them the
2:18.0	benefits add up over time. I agree with all of that the other side of it
