Summary

Today we're talking about the Southern Baptist Convention and two big stories surrounding the organization. First, the recently released report on sexual abuse within the church. We go over some of the information in the report and how to navigate the situation as well as the SBC's handling of it over the years. Then, we welcome Pastor Tom Ascol back to the show to discuss the SBC meeting taking place next week in California, during which the SBC will choose a new president. 0:31.5	Well, a couple of weeks ago, was it?
0:33.9	Yeah, a couple of weeks ago now, the SBC released a report about sexual abuse allegations
0:42.6	within the denomination that have occurred over the past 20 plus years.
0:49.3	Guide post was the organization that did the investigation put together the report.
0:54.9	And this matters because the SBC is the largest Protestant denomination in the country.
1:01.1	Um, it is a very influential denomination within Protestantism.
1:04.9	In general, it's a pretty politically active denomination as well, pretty conservative.
1:12.0	And yet over the past several years, there have been debates.
1:16.2	There have been divisions about things like critical race theory, social and so
1:22.6	called racial justice, how to deal with the issue of sexual abuse and sexual abuse allegations
1:29.9	within the church, especially in light of the bigger cultural conversation about me too.
1:35.8	So there have been fault lines.
1:37.4	There have been fissures within the SBC about how to approach these things biblically.
1:45.3	And now the SBC is holding its annual meeting in Anaheim, California next week,
1:51.6	where they will be voting on leadership positions.
