Today's show takes a deep dive into state secrecy

in light of the recent revelations regarding Joe Biden's mishandling and classified documents

from his time as vice president and senator.

My guest is Elizabeth Goitin, a senior fellow at the Brennan Center in New York

and an expert on over-classification in the federal government.

When you saw the photograph of the top secret documents laid out on the floor at Mar-a-Lago,

what did you think to yourself, looking at that image?

How that could possibly happen,

how anyone could be that irresponsible? And I thought, what data was in there that may compromise sources and methods? By that, I mean names of people who helped, etc. And it's just totally irresponsible.

That was, of course, Joe Biden back in September

when the Democratic Party was deeply concerned about the protection of state secrets

in the aftermath of the raid of Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago compound.

Those were the days, were they not?

MSNBC guests puffing their chests about stolen classified documents, implying that Donald Trump may seek to sell U.S.

intelligence to a foreign adversary. Now, of course, it's a bit trickier.

President Biden's personal attorney, Bob Bauer, released a statement in just just the last a little over an hour, saying

that the Justice Department conducted a search of the Wilmington Delaware home and found additional

materials with classified markings. Now, way back in August when the mishandling of classified documents

was a hop skip and a jump away from treason. We didn't know much of anything about what

Donald Trump had actually taken with him back to Mar-a-Lago, other than very specific details about

just how classified some of that material was. Among the records seized, there were details
