You know I have criticized Mitt Romney in the past. In 2012, I campaigned for not one

but two of his competitors. In 2016, I ignored all his stupid warnings about Trump. Since

that time, I have regularly lambasted him for holding up good, important Republican policy

priorities. But it would seem as though Mitt Romney is coming around. He has just announced

that he will not hold up President Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

The decision to proceed now with the President Trump's nominee is also consistent with history.

I came down on the side of the Constitution and President, as I've studied it, and make

the decision on that basis.

Very good news. We're all excited. He's right that the President is on the side of Trump,

that the Constitution is on the side of Trump. I think it's 19 times in U.S. history. We've

been in this situation where a President during election year has to fill a Supreme Court

vacancy and he's got the White House and he's got the Senate. 17 out of those 19 times,

the nominee has gone through. I believe it's two out of ten times when either party has

either the Senate or the White House, but not both. There's a Supreme Court vacancy during

the fourth year of a presidential administration. Only two out of ten times has that nominee
