I'm Dr. Eliza Pressman and I'm really excited for today's episode

because I had such a wonderful conversation

with author Bethany Saltman who wrote this gorgeous book,

Strange Situation, A Mother's Journey

into the Science of Attachment,

and it is truly both a personal mom memoir,

but with a journey that you will recognize and watch unfold as you get to know yourself and it

covers the science of attachment which is the science of knowing yourself,

and understanding and making sense of you and your world.

And it is the science that helps us understand

that who we are and who we were in the past and the experience that we had

being parented is of course something we have to come to terms with and really unpack in order to be the parents that we want to be.

In order to understand this episode and get the most out of it,

I just wanted to find a few things that I think will just

clarify our conversation and then of course all will come to light when you read the book. But

attachment science is really foundational to child development and as a sort of red flag, a lot of popular parenting movements,

or, you know, gosh, there's so much popular culture

parenting stuff out there that uses the word attachment.

But none of that is attachment science.
