Yesterday I had a first of four upcoming neck surgeries and procedures that I'm having

over the course of this month and last month. I'm feeling okay today.

And when it's a day after surgery, you never quite know if

if you're improving or not, it normally takes a few days for all the swelling and things to go down.

But you might have seen a post that I made yesterday where I was very, very frustrated.

One I had just gotten out of surgery and probably shouldn't even have been looking at my phone.

But I posted that we were trying to find colleges and universities for African students who have

fled the war in Ukraine to be transferred to. And that preferably they would be college

universities that would take these students on for free because these students have already

paid their tuition in Ukraine and they are literally homeless with nowhere to go.

And thousands, literally thousands of the comments, infuriated me and infuriated a lot of us.

And I want to unpack and explain what I saw and try to use this as a teachable moment.

So far, we are really just now getting a functional operation up and rolling to help rescue African

students and immigrants. We've really been deprioritized. Some of it is racism and the more that I talk

to African students and the more that I talk to actual good quality people on the ground. Some of it

isn't, isn't racism but is racial and I rarely split hairs there. Racism is inherent in a lot of

this but we're trying to rescue students who are so stuck in Ukraine, African students who are

still stuck in Ukraine and then African students who have crossed over into multiple borders and

countries and are functionally lost. Most of them with nothing but the clothes on their back,

no clean underwear or clothes, no money, they've already spent what they had. It is bone cold
