| 0:13.0 | Childers on your say hello Alisa. Hi, Dawn. Great to be with you. We are gonna rock this thing. Do you think that at the end of this episode we |
| 0:20.8 | should have a duet, a skillet slash Zoe Girl duet of a song. Like a mashup, you know, we could do like a mashup. That would be awesome. I think we should do a tour. We're skillet play Zoe Girl covers and you know, we |
| 0:34.6 | can split them. What do you think? Yeah, yeah, I love it. Let's do it. All right people, tell it, give us a comment and let us know which songs you want to hear on the tour. We're going to do it at the end of this year. But, but we're gonna jump into awesome stuff. So let's get straight into this sweet episode of Cooper stuff. |
| 0:51.6 | Cooper stuff. |
| 1:05.6 | Hey everybody. We have an amazing podcast for you guys today with my friend Alisa Childers. She has an excellent book that I got to tell you about is called another gospel. I've read it word by word. It is so good. Go follow her on YouTube. Alisa Childers or podcast is fantastic. |
| 1:20.6 | She's a Christian author and a great thinger. There's a lot of very smart things to say. You're gonna love this podcast. I'm gonna ask her a ton of awesome questions. As always, I want to thank everybody for supporting me in my book, Awake and Alive to Truth. Don't forget about it. It's great for groups and it is great for anybody who wants a foundational understanding of what Christian life is all about. Anybody that feels like your life is being thrown around in absolute chaos. |
| 1:48.6 | You got to check out my book Awake and Alive to Truth. Only get it on john L Cooper dot com john L Cooper dot com slash awake. That's enough of my talking. Let's jump into this. Hey, what's up everybody. Welcome back to Cooper stuff. As I already told you, we have a sweet guests on here. I got to promote this book. Check it out. If you can't see it here is another gospel. |
| 2:11.6 | I got this book. I read the entire thing, Alisa. I didn't skip. I didn't skim. I read the whole book. Wow. And it's come out recently, right? Yeah, came out in October. I think the first week of October of last year. Yeah, last year. |
| 2:28.6 | It's really, really great. I loved it. And we're going to jump into lots of things about it. But I think it's, I would probably encourage people of why I think this is so good. There's so many. |
| 2:41.6 | You talk a lot about progressive Christianity in general. And I'd like to maybe talk about why. But I found this to be sort of like where I call my book, like theology for dummies. |
| 2:52.6 | I think this book was like apologetics for dummies. You talk about. Is that is that accurate? Yeah, I love it. That was that. That's what I wanted. I wanted to give some of these apologetic arguments and kind of thoughts. |
| 3:04.6 | But make it because I just remember when I was first studying apologetics, I felt so overwhelmed. I felt like such a dummy because people were using all these big words. And I didn't know what they meant. |
| 3:13.6 | So I wanted to write something that was really accessible for people who didn't already know what all the big words mean. |
| 3:19.6 | Well, I think you did that. And I think it's really, really needed. And so I think it will start from the beginning here. I kind of made a joke earlier about Zoey girl. Sorry. For people who don't know, you sang in a group called Zoey girl. |
| 3:34.6 | Yeah. And we did shows together. We did shows. Yes. Yes, we did. |
| 3:39.6 | So we kind of know each other for often on, I guess, for 20 years. But yeah. And then you can tell whatever about your story you want to. But the book starts with this idea of you going to, I think I'd like you just to tell why you went to that particular teaching, progressive, whatever. |
| 3:58.6 | And you can tell us whatever you want to about it. It's really important to understand your story. Yeah, well, thanks. And yes, those were such good times touring and shout fest tour. And I don't know if we did a winter jam tour together or not. But I definitely remember the shout fest tour. |
| 4:12.6 | So fun. Great times in my life. Honestly, you know, spending the better part of a decade, essentially touring around the country, trying to encourage young girls to stand strong in their faith and to be bold for Jesus on their public school campuses. |
| 4:26.6 | And all of that was such an enormously wonderful experience for me. And so you're right. It was, it was kind of after that was over. We were all married and having kids by that time. |
| 4:37.6 | And so I had been invited to do some music at a local church here in middle Tennessee. Now, I did not know that that particular church was on its way to becoming progressive. |
| 4:49.6 | So at the time, it was just marketed as your run of the mill, non-denominational, evangelical church, you know, Bible belt, all that good stuff. |
