Summary

Welcome to the podcast. This week I am joined my a good buddy Shawn Melland. Shawn is probably one of the best elk hunters in the world. I think a lot of people like to hate on him because what he does seems unattainable. I promise you the only difference between you and Shawn is mindset. You can sit here and say well thats not realistic but but ask yourself why. Why is unrealistic?
We recorded this podcast originally as a wapiti Wednesday for the Patrons but the second half of this pod was so good on a deeper level that I couldn’t not give it to the world. As Shawn said after the podcast, “wow that took a direction I wasn’t expecting.” I said “yeah that might be the biggest ah ha moment I have ever had on the podcast. That punched me in the face pretty hard.
A lot of you have seen that I put out a course called Elk Hunt 201. Which is a 4 step system for being a more successful elk hunter.
I attribute a lot of my knowledge in the last few years to this man right here and a lot of that system comes from Shawn.
There are seems to be two types of reactions to Shawns podcasts. Those who look at someone who targets only 380 plus bulls and says “Well he’s different or that’s not applicable.” and those who say “What can I learn from this guy.” Even if you want to shoot rag 6’s  I would listen to every word Shawn says. Enjoy!

All right, guys. Welcome to the podcast. This podcast is one of the, I don't know, one of

0:06.0

the best podcasts I think I've ever recorded, at least in my opinion. And today I'm joined

0:10.6

by a really close buddy of mine, Sean Melend, and Sean is just an awesome dude, who is

0:17.8

probably one of the best elk hunters in the world. And I look up to Sean a lot. I've

0:21.6

learned so so much from Sean. I think a lot of people hate on Sean when I do podcast

0:26.5

with him because what he does seems unattainable. It seems unrealistic, right? But I promise

0:32.9

you one thing, the only difference between Sean and you is mindset. 100%. You can sit

0:39.6

there and say, well, that's not realistic or that's unattainable. That's not for me.

0:43.5

But I want you to ask yourself, why? Why is it unrealistic? Why not? Why not you? And

0:49.2

I think if you take anything from this podcast, let it be that we recorded this podcast

0:54.5

originally as a Wapiti Wednesday for the Patreons. We're going to do some Elk 301 stuff.

0:59.8

And that's Sean's forte. But the second half of this podcast cuts so good that I couldn't

1:06.9

not share it with the world. So even Sean, after the podcast was like, wow, that took

1:12.4

a direction I was not expecting. And I said, yeah, that might be the best podcast I've

1:16.4

ever done. It was just like this aha moment. It was such a punch in the face for me.

1:20.2

So I hope you guys like it. And I know a lot of you have kind of seen some of the stuff

1:27.2

that I've posted about my Elk 201 course, which is a four step system for being a more

1:32.2

successful hunter. And I attribute a lot of that knowledge to guys like Sean. I've learned

1:37.9

so, so much from Sean in the last few years. And the dude just gets it. And a lot of that

1:43.3

system comes from system like his. And that's how I developed this four step system.

1:48.5

It means him and the hundreds of other guests have had to, but you know, this is the type

1:53.4

of system that I'm talking about when I, when I teach the Elk hunt to a one course,
