With everything that's going down in Georgia, I thought it'd be a great time to check in

with an old friend of the Axfiles, former Deputy Attorney General and U.S. Attorney for

Northern Georgia, Sally Eates.

Eates, who you'll remember, was fired by President Trump as Acting Attorney General, after she

refused to have Department lawyers defend a travel ban that she feared was unconstitutional,

has been relatively quiet as the cases against Trump have unfolded, until now.

Here's that conversation.

Sally Eates, it is always great to see you, good to have you here again.

And it's a propitious time to have you, because as we were talking about before we began

recording, Georgia's ground zero for the news this week.

President Trump is coming to be booked at the county jail, as you pointed out beforehand.

It's kind of a surreal thing to say.

You haven't commented much on any of this, and I know you well enough to know you have

some thoughts.

So tell me why you've been circumspect about it, and tell me what you think about this

particular indictment in Georgia.

Well, it's always a treat to be with you, David, so thank you for inviting me back.

I guess I don't know that it was a conscious decision to be circumspect, but as this has

been a matter that's been under investigation by DOJ for the last couple of years, I kind

of felt like the last thing that they needed was, you know, somebody from the cheap seats
