How do you not force self-compassion?

By only saying the things that you believe.

So we teach something inside the path called ladder thinking.

And I can go into it a little bit right now, but what it is is usually when we're trying to force ourselves, again, that force word instead of power,

when we're trying to force ourselves to think something different, we do what's called jump to the top ring of the ladder.

So if we try to be like, okay, so the thought in your head is, you're so stupid.

Why did you do that? I can't believe you.

And you're like, oh, I'm going to have self-compassion. You're like, okay, you're not stupid.

You're fine. Everything's good.

At a subconscious level, you don't believe yourself.

And so actually that's too high of a rung on the ladder.

If you think of every rung on the ladder, like a level of thinking that's different from what you're thinking now,

sometimes you have to say something like, I do feel stupid about last night, but I know that there's a lot to be learned here.

And that is hugely compassionate.
