Summary

On this week’s episode, Genevieve will discuss onion syrup poisonings, vigilante justice, razor suicides, jealous quarrels, horrible… truly horrible murders, Russian piggy-back rides and a narrow escape from death that ends in quite a significant amount of blushing. She will also discuss why executions are usually done at the crack of dawn, a little about spirit photography and why some ghosts maintain their deathly visages while others do not. Hello and welcome to my Victorian nightmare. I'm your host, Genevieve Mannion,

0:09.1

and I'm here to talk about mysterious deaths, morbid fascinations, disturbing stories, and otherwise spooky events from the Victorian era.

0:19.6

Because to me, there's just something especially intriguing,

0:22.6

creepy, and oddly comforting about horror and mayhem from the 19th century. So, listener discretion

0:30.8

is advised.

0:44.5

Hello, friends, and welcome to this my 54th episode.

0:48.3

I hope that you had a fabulous week.

0:51.5

I was a sweaty mess.

0:52.5

I hate this.

0:57.8

I added some cinnamon to some roasted squash to help me pretend that it was October. It helped, which it almost is, kind of. August is almost September,

1:05.7

which retail orally speaking is Halloween. That's when Home Depot drags out their glorious 12-foot

1:12.5

skeletons, which is always a joyous occasion. Oh, and I got hit in the face with a

1:18.1

cicada this week. Apparently, when it gets hot enough, they level up and receive the gift of flight. This guy received his gift

1:30.5

and used it to try to fly up my nose. I feel like there's a lesson in there somewhere

1:36.0

about not allowing oppressive circumstances to keep you from shooting your shot. Or like if

1:42.7

life only gives you wings for a short amount of time,

1:46.4

you better fly up that nose. What's your interpretation of this humiliating, terrifying

1:52.4

experience that I endured? Let me know in the comments.

2:07.5

Oh, darlings, thank you all so much who have joined the fan coven.

2:12.4

I just sent out another big batch of presents for those of you who have joined.

2:19.5

I will have to wait until around August 11th, though, to send out the next batch. I'm so sorry,

2:25.4

but I truly did not think nearly as many of you people would join as you have. So I only foraged enough trinkets for a fraction of you. I had to order all new trinkets, and they're not getting here
