Summary

Bob Kleberg, Jr. had an eye for good horses. When he did something, he did it big. He also managed one of the largest and most storied ranches in Texas, founded by his grandfather Richard King. When Kleberg decided that the King Ranch would race thoroughbreds, he bought and bred the best. In 1943, a chestnut colt was born on the King Ranch in far South Texas. The scampering colt stepped on an old surveyor stake and it went right through his hoof. Not a good situation for a racehorse. Instead of putting him down, an enterprising veterinarian fixed the foot and he went on to race. As a 3 year-old, the horse had a chance to bring the coveted triple crown home to Texas. 0:55.5	horse in the history of horse race American horse racing to win the Triple Crown
1:00.4	his name is Justify he won the Derby in the Preakness and now he has a chance to win one of the toughest trophies to win in all of sports. The Triple Crown.
1:10.0	Well, why am I mentioning that on a Texas history podcast?
1:13.5	Justify was born and was bred in Kentucky.
1:16.6	But Justify does have a Texas connection, because one of these owners
1:21.0	is Windstar Farm owned by Kenny Trout who lives in Dallas, Texas.
1:25.6	Mr. Trout's not a native to the state, but he is a Dallas resident, so we're going to claim him.
1:30.8	So perhaps this year, another Triple Crown trophy will make its way to Texas.
1:35.0	That's right I said another because as you might expect Texas already has a triple crown. One of our biggest and most historic
