Summary

What does living slow really mean (as in, not just in an internet buzzword-y way)? There's never a one-for-everyone description for slow, simple living, and that's a beautiful thing—that's what Erin and Tsh talk about in this episode. They talk about both goals and non-goals, how they deal with the pressure to "be" a certain way, and why knowing how we're made is key to pretty much everything.  For links talked about in this episode, go to http://thesimpleshow.com and look for episode 53.

talk about what it means to live slow. It's almost become a buzzword, so we're going to talk about what

0:37.9

it really means, especially as we start the new year. We're also going to get really practical

0:42.6

about some new year goals or some non-new year goals, however you slice it. All right, Erin,

0:48.3

this is the start of a new year, and I don't know how you feel, but I almost feel overwhelmed

0:53.9

with the thought of, overwhelmed with the thought of how much I want to slow down right now after the holidays. How do you feel? Oh, well, isn't it funny? Like, you're how tired you are by the New Year? Like, you're supposed to be all energized and inspired. And I'm like, oh, man, I could use another month here. You need a month's buffer. Well, and for me, the week between Christmas and New Year's is one of my favorite weeks of the whole year. Like, I love, love the permission to like not know what day it is and to stay in my jammies for hours and hours and just kind of read and think. And to me, it's almost like I get a taste of that. And it's like, oh,

1:27.6

more, please, more, more, more. And then I have to get back to real life, you know?

1:30.5

Yes. Yes. And I found, like, the week of getting back into the real life, like, you kind of drag your heels. But then by like week two, you're like, okay, this is good. This is, I like this. I miss this. I don't know what your feeds are looking like, your Instagram and social media stuff, but everybody

1:45.2

that I'm seeing is talking about their goals, their one word of the year, what their journals

1:50.4

look like. And to me, it's like, I love it. And in fact, I'm doing that. I've posted some of that,

1:55.1

but it can also feel so overwhelming if you're like, wait, I don't even know yet, you know?

2:00.7

I don't do that stuff, Tish. Yeah, I just don't. I think I'm in that season where I mean,

2:07.9

have small children, a four-year-old in a baby. And it's like, you know, goals, I don't want to

2:13.9

lower the expectation here because I think it's really important to be intentional about your time and about your day.

2:18.4

But maybe that's my goal is just today.

2:21.1

You know, let's do one good thing today.

Let's work hard today.
