Congratulations to the Falls Church School Board for voting unanimously to rename Thomas Jefferson Elementary

School and George Mason High School.

Now we know that the vote follows a six month long process

which included hours of public hearings, hundreds of submitted written public

comments, and a survey of the community to inform the board's decision.

We went through all of that knowing they were going to change the names.

I don't know why this is such a big deal. But according to

school board chairman Greg Anderson the board took seriously the viewpoints and

concerns raised by many students, parents, and staff, and community members.

And we want them to know that student, staff, and community members feel safe, supported, and

inspired.

Now, they haven't decided on new names for the schools, but the schools that are going to be renamed are Thomas Jefferson Elementary and George Mason High School.

Oh my gosh, those two names are horrific.

You can't have them on buildings, you can't.

What do you bet? We name Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, Brianna Taylor Elementary School.

And George Mason High School is George Floyd High School.
