| 0:00.0 | Good morning guys. Happy Monday. I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I hope you all did something fun or restful or both. |
| 0:12.5 | I am so excited about today's episode. We're doing back to school episode and it's so funny because it's school is something that I haven't directly thought of in a long time because I am 31 nearly 32. |
| 0:28.0 | It is almost birth month. Gird your loans. But you guys often have questions about it. So I am going to spend today's episode going through my experiences in high school, college and grad school and then share some tips and tricks because I know that there's a lot of anxiety around school and there's a lot of heightened emotions coming back to school. |
| 0:52.5 | I also know that school, whether it's high school or college or grad school or what have you, it's some of the most exhilarating but also challenging times of your life. |
| 1:04.5 | Emotions are heightened and I also think my heart goes out to everybody who's in school because if you're in school now that means that you dealt with missing school because of COVID, maybe you were remote, maybe you missed rushing, maybe you have never met your classmates. |
| 1:21.5 | And I really want to just take a moment and say that that's difficult and I feel for you guys. So I will try to incorporate what I think about that too because looking back, I do think that school can be the most amazing, some of the most amazing times of your life. |
| 1:38.5 | For me, that was college, not grad school or high school but for college for sure. So my goal is to open your minds and impart some wisdom knowledge on you and hopefully have a wonderful, so that you have a wonderful semester or term or quarter, whatever it is. |
| 1:56.5 | I feel like a lot of you have actually already gone back to school, which is insane because when I was, when I was in school, it was like late September, but here we are. |
| 2:05.5 | So high school, cast your mind back to 2005, whenever, whenever I started high school, that's a terrifying thought. Obviously I grew up in London, so the school system was super different and my high school experiences were a lot different, we're much different to many of you. |
| 2:22.5 | I went to an all-girl school, I did go to private school and I had a uniform and gosh, this one is going to be tricky because I am a very rose colored glasses person when it comes to looking back at the past. |
| 2:38.5 | And I always try and find the lesson as you guys know, so I tend to say, oh, it was wonderful and people ask me, would you send, if you had daughters, would you send them to an all-girl school and I would 100% and I look back and I think, wow, it just made me who I am today. |
| 2:53.5 | But let me tell you, in the moment, I was miserable, absolutely miserable. And I was talking to my mom, I was telling her about the episode and I was like, can you remind me what I was like because I think that I was just such a nice teenager and I was just, you know, having a good time at school and she was like, you were a monster. |
| 3:13.5 | She was like, you were just so depressed, you would lock yourself in your room and read weird books and watch movies until five in the morning and you were just constantly complaining about how you felt like you didn't fit in and how you wanted to move to America and how you hated how you looked and how you felt awkward and all this stuff and I was like, gosh, I guess you're right. |
| 3:35.5 | So I definitely wouldn't say I was unpopular in high school, but I wouldn't say that I was super popular. I had one best friend, Jotie, who you guys have heard me talk about and we basically were bum buddies, we hung out like 95% of the time. |
| 3:51.5 | I had other good friends, but I didn't have like a click of girlfriends. It was just basically me and her and then we would just hang out at the weekends together. We did literally everything together. |
| 4:00.5 | And I'm so grateful because having a best friend who you can is basically your twin flame is really great. |
| 4:08.5 | But we did everything together. So I didn't have a big group of friends, which is funny because I feel like now you guys associate me with having lots of different groups of friends and always being with people. |
| 4:20.5 | But back then I just didn't vibe with that many girls in my high school. I want to paint the picture, which is that my high school was a little bit psychotic in England. |
| 4:30.5 | Basically, you have you go from like five to 11 and then you take something called the common entrance exams, which is national exams. |
| 4:39.5 | Everyone takes and then you go to your upper school and then you go from 11 to 18. Okay. And then you also have some exams when you're 16 called your GCSEs. |
| 4:47.5 | And our school and then they rank the schools every year in the paper. And our school was number one for most of the time that I was in high school. |
| 4:57.5 | And so it was very academic. You had to apply to get in and it was really, really academic. The focus was on grades. The focus was on incredible sports. The focus was on theater. |
