Welcome back to the re-education. Today's show is just a monologue and one that is very much on the news.

Today I'm looking at the implications of Elon Musk's first days as the new chief Twit as the owner of Twitter.

I feel like, Ben, one of the things that we've seen when other people have not taken over big media companies, but started their own niche media companies on this issue of free speech and not doing content moderation and it being a wide open Wild West, and that's the point of it, is that pretty quickly we get lots of ISIS beheading

videos and, you know, child pornography and, you know, eating disorder dysmorphia photos and other

things that in some cases are illegal. And in other cases,

make the site, make the use of the site impossible for normal humans with normal gag reflexes.

We just heard from Rachel Maddow back in April when she still had a regular show.

And the news first broke that it looked like Elon Musk was about to purchase Twitter.

Her point here is one that many progressives are making today on Musk's first and second day as the new CEO.

Basically it goes like this.

There's no such thing as a totally unfettered free speech platform on the internet.

Even 4chan has rules.

Everyone has a line.

And that is true as far as it goes.

But this argument that even Elon Musk will have to impose

some rules of content moderation is also a straw man.

The reason is because the serious criticism of Twitter today and other social media companies

was never that no content should be moderated, of course some should.

Rather, it was that content moderation should be neutral, politically speaking, and not skewed to censor legitimate debate.

To demonstrate this point, consider the Babylon B, a right-leaning parody site that earlier this year gave its man-of-the-year award to Rachel Levine, the transgender HHS, that's Health and Human Services,

assistant secretary. Here is the B's CEO, Seth Dillon, explaining what happened next to Fox News.
