Arizona Cardinals starwired receiver, Deandre Hopkins, was suspended six games by the NFL

yesterday for performance-enhancing drugs and put a big speed bump into what the Cardinals

were hoping to accomplish this year, especially early.

But that isn't what I'm here to talk about.

The punishment system in the NFL has its priorities all messed up.

You can intake substances to give you a clear advantage on the field, which is literally

the definition of cheating and only get a half-year suspension.

Hell, you can assault somebody in an elevator and get two games until the video services

to the public causing an enhanced punishment.

But if you bet on your own team to win like Calvin Ridley, you get a full year.

We've already debated whether athletes should be allowed to bet on their team to win on

the money line.

But this diatribe focuses on the punishments levied for certain offenses.

We need to punish people according to their actions.

I don't believe the NFL has to opine on stuff going on off the field, only relay the punishment.

My argument is simple.

The punishments for taking steroids should at least equal the punishment for betting on
