Summary

Shortly after coming to America, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi’s family hit a financial rough patch. For a time, the family lived in public housing and relied on food stamps, a boost that instilled in Rep. Krishnamoorthi a lifelong appreciation for the US government and a desire to give back. He joined David to talk about what he sees as the US’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, his journey from engineering student to US Congressman and how the job has grown more dangerous in the past few years.

Raja for the rest of the conversation. But normally I would start by talking about your

personal story and your personal story is really compelling and it's one that I want

to get to. But we're talking on the day after Afghanistan fell. Even as we speak, there

1:31.9

are horrendous scenes at the airport in Kabul of Afghans who have cooperated with Americans,

1:40.5

collaborated with Americans, supported American troops and intelligence and so on, who are

1:50.6

climbing the fence at the airport to try and force away onto planes to escape the Taliban

1:57.9

as the Taliban search for them to punish them for cooperating with us. It's a horrendous
