Summary

This past week New York City announced that all non-violent mental health calls will be rerouted away from the NYPD and sent instead to mental health professionals. This amounts to nearly 154,000 calls a year - or over 400 calls a day to 911. When it gets instituted, this is going to change the city and change policing in a major way.

Hey everybody, it is Monday. I am feeling significantly better a week out of

0:08.0

having my wisdom tooth pulled. It's does still hurt a little, but therefore,

0:14.1

while I was in a ton of pain, I'm in a much better place now as you can hear from

0:19.6

my giggles and a big voice. But today's going to be a good news episode of the

1:49.4

mayor Bill de Blasio has been particularly on policing and law enforcement

1:54.9

accountability. He's frequently been terrible. It is possible that we will have

2:01.6

someone less progressive and even more problematic than him elected as mayor.

2:07.0

And when he does good things, it doesn't really get celebrated or get the

2:14.4

coverage because he's a pretty bad politician.

2:22.4

Just to lay it out there, a lot of being a good politician is being good with people.

2:32.9

It's being good with the media. Not just being present, but having a personality and
