Wright is the former bishop of Durham in the Church of England and one of the world’s leading Bible scholars. He is now serving as the Chair of New Testament and Early Christianity at the School of Divinity at the University of St. Andrews. For twenty years he taught New Testament studies at Cambridge, McGill and Oxford Universities. As being both one of the world’s leading Bible scholars and a popular author, he has been featured on ABC News, Dateline, The Colbert Report, and Fresh Air. One of the things that really struck me is that the way people have read Romans tends to be that

they do a run landing on Romans 323 all sinned and came short of the glory of God.

And they assumed that that's the sum total of everything Paul has set up to that point.

But when Paul begins the great exposition with chapter 1 verse 18, sin isn't the first thing

The first thing he mentions is idolatry, or rather Asabia, which means ungodliness.
