Hello and welcome to my time capsule.

0:13.0

I'm Mike Fenton-Stevens, and my time capsule is the podcast where people tell me five things from their life they wish they had in a time capsule.

0:21.5

Four things that they cherish, and one thing they'd like to bury and forget. My guest in this episode is

0:27.4

Maria McCurlin, the actor, broadcaster and writer. To sort of summarize her career briefly,

0:33.8

she's been on radio with Graham Norton for years, played lots of characters in the far show,

0:38.8

was in Fat Friends, This Life, Happiness, Killing Eve, and the film Children of Men with Clive Owen,

0:45.3

Julianne Moore, and Michael Kane.

0:48.0

She's been on Have I Got News for You, and Just a Minute, was the narrator of Eurotrash for years,

0:53.3

has been a regular guest of Nigella Lawson

0:55.8

on Nigella's show, Nigella, aptly named, and Maria is a regular columnist for the Sunday Times

1:02.5

and Esquire magazine. Now, those of you who've listened to My Time Capsule from the very beginning

1:07.2

will know that this is a special episode, as it's the first time we've

1:11.0

had a guest on twice. So, in fact, this is really my time capsule revisited, or take two, or

1:18.0

don't know, I haven't really thought of a title yet. Anyway, Maria was our tenth guest over four

1:23.1

years ago, and this is an attempt to see if we could ask some of our early guests back and see if their original choices for things they'd want in a time capsule still apply. Would they like to replace them or possibly leave the original time capsule in the ground for posterity and choose five new things to put in a brand new time capsule? This is something we hope to do with a number of previous

1:44.4

guests and the end result may well be different with each of them, but it ought to be interesting,

1:49.5

I think. For example, does what's important to us change over time? Or does it change every day?

1:55.7

Well, Maria has her autobiography out called Bumps in the Road. So she's bound to have thought of other things

2:01.6

from her life that are important to her, I hope. So let's find out what they are. And just to let

2:07.2

you know, this was recorded in person at my house, in fact, in my kitchen. And before we started,

2:13.3

Maria attempted to turn her phone off and accidentally rang the emergency services, as you do.

2:19.9

And outrage. It's a marvellous service, as you'll see. Anyway, here for the second time is the ever
