Well, one thing that's new is today's guest. We've never spoken before to Theodore Dalrymple, a pen name. A Theodore

Dalrymple, under that name, has written many, many books, and we are going to focus today

on a book from just around the turn of the millennium called Life

at the Bottom, the worldview that makes the underclass.

Theodore Dalrymple is an English writer and retired prison doctor and psychiatrist.

Before his retirement in 2005, he worked in City Hospital, Birmingham, and Winson Green Prison in inner-city Birmingham, England.

He's a fellow of the Manhattan Institute and a contributing editor of City Journal.

He's written a column for the London Spectator for more than 13 years.

His work frequently appears in the British Medical Journal, the Times, the Observer, the Daily Telegraph, the Spectator, and many other publications.
