Summary
How does habitat size affect plant populations? What happens to plants and insects when two smaller habitats are connected by a habitat corridor? These are the kinds of questions Dr. Julian Resasco likes to ask. Join us for a discussion about the dynamics of habitat fragmentation. This episode was produced in part by Jamie, Brent, Tanner, Rick, Kazys, Dorothy, Katherine, Emily, Theo, Nichole, Paul, Karen, Randi, Caelan, Tom, Don, Susan, Corbin, Keena, Robin, Peter, Whitney, Kenned, Margaret, Daniel, Karen, David, Earl, Jocelyn, Gary, Krysta, Elizabeth, Southern California Carnivorous Plant Enthusiasts, Pattypollinators, Peter, Judson, Ella, Alex, Dan, Pamela, Peter, Andrea, Nathan, Karyn, Michelle, Jillian, Chellie, Linda, Laura, Miz Holly, Christie, Carlos, Paleo Fern, Levi, Sylvia, Lanny, Ben, Lily, Craig, Sarah, Lor, Monika, Brandon, Jeremy, Suzanne, Kristina, Christine, Silas, Michael, Aristia, Felicidad, Lauren, Danielle, Allie, Jeffrey, Amanda, Tommy, Marcel, C Leigh, Karma, Shelby, Christopher, Alvin, Arek, Chellie, Dani, Paul, Dani, Tara, Elly, Colleen, Natalie, Nathan, Ario, Laura, Cari, Margaret, Mary, Connor, Nathan, Jan, Jerome, Brian, Azomonas, Ellie, University Greens, Joseph, Melody, Patricia, Matthew, Garrett, John, Ashley, Cathrine, Melvin, OrangeJulian, Porter, Jules, Griff, Joan, Megan, Marabeth, Les, Ali, Southside Plants, Keiko, Robert, Bryce, Wilma, Amanda, Helen, Mikey, Michelle, German, Joerg, Cathy, Tate, Steve, Kae, Carole, Mr. Keith Santner, Lynn, Aaron, Sara, Kenned, Brett, Jocelyn, Ethan, Sheryl, Runaway Goldfish, Ryan, Chris, Alana, Rachel, Joanna, Lori, Paul, Griff, Matthew, Bobby, Vaibhav, Steven, Joseph, Brandon, Liam, Hall, Jared, Brandon, Christina, Carly, Kazys, Stephen, Katherine, Mohsin Kazmi Takes Pictures, Manny, doeg, Daniel, Tim, Philip, Tim, Lisa, Brodie, Bendix, Irene, holly, Sara, and Margie.

| 0:05.4 | What's up? This is your host, Matt. Welcome to the show. How is everyone doing this |
| 0:08.7 | week? Today we are taking a dive into a very complex world that involves habitat fragmentation, |
| 0:14.6 | corridors, and plant pollinator interactions and how they might change with disturbance and climate |
| 0:19.9 | change and every other thing humanity can throw at them. |
| 0:23.4 | This may seem like it's going to be a really big doom and gloom kind of conversation, but I assure you there are many reasons for hope. |
| 0:29.7 | And joining us to talk about this is Dr. Julian Rosasco, who has spent time in a variety of habitats trying to understand complex ecological dynamics in a way |
| 0:38.7 | that makes sense so that we can actually use these data to make conservation actions more tangible, |
| 0:44.1 | more real, and more successful. |
| 0:46.4 | I don't want to steal any of us thunder, but before we get into that conversation, I just |
| 0:50.4 | want to say this podcast can exist without support. |
| 0:53.3 | There's a lot of great ways to chip in some support. And one of the best is to become a patron over at patreon.com slash indefensive plants. There's a lot of great kickbacks for supporting the show with a little financial contribution each month. But I literally couldn't be doing this without my patrons. So thank you to everyone who has kicked in a little bit of financial support thus |
| 1:10.9 | far once again that's patreon.com slash indefinite of plants consider supporting the show today |
| 1:15.7 | but that is entirely enough out of me let's just jump right into it without further ado here's |
| 1:20.5 | my conversation dr julian rsasco i hope you enjoy. All right, Dr. Julian Rosasco, welcome to the podcast. I'm really excited to talk to you |
| 1:42.1 | today, but let's start off with an introduction. Tell everyone a little bit about who you are and what it is you do. |
| 1:48.1 | Sure. Yeah. I'm an assistant professor at the University of Colorado of Boulder in the Department |
| 1:53.8 | of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. The kind of work that we do in our lab is we're interested in how biodiversity, how human impacts like fragmentation and climate change and species invasions affect biodiversity. |
| 2:14.2 | And we work on a variety of taxa, but in particular, we do a lot of work with insects and plant insect interactions. |
| 2:26.3 | And we do research in the Rocky Mountains and also some work in the southeast and South Carolina. |
| 2:32.3 | Nice. |
