Summary

Butterflies and plants are inextricably linked. It stands to reason then that if you want healthy butterfly populations, you first need plant diversity on the landscape. Join me and Dr. Katy Prudic as we explore her research into how we can better manage the human environment, especially in suburban and urban areas, to be good habitat for butterflies. Learn how citizen science opportunities are helping her and her colleagues understand everything from the impact of climate change and the presence of botanical gardens on butterfly diversity. super exciting because we are talking about butterflies and what it takes to do better by these

wonderful little winged beauties. Obviously, butterflies are as tied to plants as they are each other.

And what we do with plants, and especially the way we manage plants in the built environment,

0:44.7

really, really matters, especially when you consider the impacts of climate change.

Joining us to talk about this is entomologist Dr. Katie Prudik,

who engages a lot of community scientists

in the process of researching all of the wonderful questions she comes up with. I don't want to

take any time away from what she has to say, so let's just jump right into it without further

ado. Here's my conversation with Dr. Katie Prudik. I hope you enjoy.

That's an unloaded question, I feel. But in this case, as a professor, I'm a professor of in the wildlife group at the University of Arizona.

I study butterfly conservation and management, how we can make the lives of butterflies and other

pollinators better, especially in a quickly changing world. So I use a variety of data sources,

and one of them is community science or citizen science
