It's happy alley with happy talk, where a hot trumpet plays background music for a panhandler.

The November twilight filtered into my office at police headquarters, and I sat there looking at it,

pushing away the time for the filling

out of my daily report. There were other diversions. Through the open window, I watched a girl

walked down the street. She wore a green silk dress that knew summer was over but didn't care.

Then I heard two things, a sigh that came from me and a door opening that came from the door.
