Summary

The hawthorns (Crataegus spp.) are in intriguing group of small trees. They are members of a genus that has sparked plenty of controversy and debate among taxonomists for decades and it doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon. Regardless of the confusion they cause, there is no denying that hawthorns are as beautiful as they are ecologically important. Join me and botanist Ron Lance as we take a deep dive into the world of hawthorns and learn how he has been contributing to our understanding of these phenomenal trees. 0:51.6	flipped to the Hawthorn section, you go, oh, there's not really a treatment in here, they
0:55.6	just kind of say, well, they're confusing and here's some general leaf shapes, but good luck.
1:00.5	And then you're just kind of set a drift in a sea of botanical confusion.
1:04.7	Well that did not dissuade botanist Ron Lance from taking a deep dive into this genus and
1:09.3	truly helping us understand the genus Cratigus a lot better and in far more detail.
1:15.4	As you're going to hear, Ron got bitten by the bug early and he hasn't looked back since
1:18.7	and he has made major contributions to our understanding of this genus.
