Summary

For seagrasses, living life underwater comes with a lot of unique challenges, not the least of which is pollination. This is especially true when you consider the fact that their flowers are both ephemeral and borne submerged. Figuring out the means by which seagrasses reproduce is important to their conversation and restoration, but was largely unknown until about a decade ago. Join me and Dr. Vivian Solis-Weiss as we discuss how her work on benthic marine organisms such as polychaete worms unlocked the key to seagrass pollination. 1:11.3	thank you so much for coming on the podcast.
1:14.7	I can't tell you how excited I am to talk about your research today,
1:16.9	but first let's start off with an introduction.
1:20.1	Tell everyone a little bit about who you are and what it is you do.
1:32.0	Well, I am a marine biologist trained in Mexico first and in France and in Israel and in the United States, where I made also some stage, and in Washington, D.C. and also in Italy. I've been living in all those places
1:41.4	that my career took me to.
1:53.3	And what I do mainly is that I study the marine invertebrates that live close to the bottom.
1:54.6	Awesome.
2:01.3	Bentas, you know, close to the bottom means like the lobsters, the shrimp.
